I took some days off this 2012 Christmas and used part of my free time to work on a recent idea for an illustration. When I draw a free illustration I usually think only at a technical level, trying to do things i never did yet or to resolve my actual drawing problems.
In this case, i wanted to draw water in a Hokusai like style and to improve my anatomy and movement flow abilities and gain more sense of depth. I also wanted to further define my color style, attempting now a cell animation approach.
As I said, i donīt usually think about the meaning of those free drawings when i start them but Iīm usually surprised when finished. Those last years have been very stressfull at a professional and personal level, full of changes, hard work, improvements, risky decisions and few little rewards. I suspect that I feel myself identified with the characters at this illustration: sailing a strange boat with strange peers and friends trying to reach a sunny and bright land after a violent sea storm that still remains.
